The Cathedral
The Cathedral
The murder of King Canute of Denmark and his subsequent canonization in the Viking era St. Albani Church led to the construction of what we know today as St. Canute’s Church (the Cathedral of Odense). We tell you how it all happened and take you into the crypt where St. Canute’s bones are displayed in a shrine. The crypt contains the graves of kings related to the stunning altarpiece created by Claus Berg of Lübeck. This altarpiece was originally commissioned for the Franciscan Monastery Church by Danish Queen Christine, wife of King Hans. It is counted among the most outstanding items of medieval art in Denmark.
